‘400 million people use Google Chrome on mobile’
On the heels of being announced as the most popular web browser with 60 % market share of all desktops for October 2014, Google Chrome still has some solid numbers to boast about in the mobile ecosystem. Google executive Darin Fisher told reporters that the mobile app of the browser is used by some 400 million users worldwide.
Though Google Chrome isn’t even preloaded on Android smartphones, the figure could be way higher of Google didn’t start asking for fees from OEMs before the browser could be preloaded on their devices. Meanwhile the browser if free to download on the Google Play Store.
On mobile, the only browser that comes close to Chrome in terms of popularity is Opera. Both Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers account for 100 million global users reports say. Internet Explorer which is installed on most Windows Phone devices out of the box isn’t anywhere close to these figures as the OS isn’t quite popular as Android and iOS where users prefer to install Chrome and iOS.
