Gionee Elife S5.1 goes official with wafer-thin 5.15 mm-thickness
Barely six months after setting a new world record with the Elife S5.5 smartphone with a body that measures just 5.5 mm, Chinese phonemaker Gionee has broken it’s own record and replaced it with a yet thinner, lighter Gionee Elife S5.1 device.
The Gionee Elife S5.1 comes with a 4.8″ HD touchscreen, though it’s predecessor, the Elife S5.5, broke cover with a 5″ FHD display. But then, the new phone is smaller (139.8×67.4 × 5.15 mm), and lighter at just 95 grams, setting yet another record as the lightest smartphone and one of the lightest mobile phones ever produced.
Under the wafer-thin frame of the device, Gionee managed to squeeze in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU, an Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. There’s also 16GB of inbuilt storage with no space for memory expansion.
The smartphone is equipped with an 8MP camera at the rear and an overly adequate 5MP front-facing shooter. Software-wise, the Elife S5.1 runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean tanned with Gionee’s home-baked Amigo 2.0 skin.
Despite it’s thinness, a 2100mAh was managed to fit inside the phone’s sealed back cover. The phone has not gone on sale yet so we are a bit slow with the price, but then, expect the price to stay south of $400 since it’s predecessor is currently being sold within the range of $350.
