New Xiaomi Mi 5 details surface
Far away from home — far away in South America, Xiaomi launched the company’s all-popular Redmi 2 smartphone in Brazil today. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 will definitely help drive the phone maker through some part of its 100-million smartphone sales target by the end of 2015. However, regardless of that, it’s not as important as the company’s next flagship device which the whole world is looking out for.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 has been the subject of way too many topics recently. A bunch of specs has been reported for the upcoming flagship but a new set of details has arrived to oust the former pack.
According to the latest report, the Mi 5 has been codenamed Xiaomi Libra internally, and will sport a 5.3-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixels res. There’s a 16-megapixel camera on the back side while the front is said to be adorned with an oddly-sized 6MP secondary camera.
Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is allegedly packing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC, a chipset which is still in the works but should be ready before the Xiaomi flagship breaks cover. The phone will use 4GB of RAM while the storage is partitioned to 64GB for the higher model and 16GB for the lower.
There was also a mention of fingerprint sensor which we expect to be embedded under the phone’s screen. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS is said to power the software side of the smartphone and finally, a non-removable battery with 3,030mAh capacity is found aboard.
No release date was given by the report.
