Rich guy Xiaomi: Company sold 61.1 million smartphones in 2014
As the year 2014 just came to an end, many companies are glad to have reached their target for that period while many others mourn. Xiaomi is one of the happy companies that ended their 2014 on a high note.
The Chinese phone maker predicted it will sell 60 million smartphones during the year and only yesterday (Sunday), official data presented showed that Xiaomi sold 61.1 million smartphones in 2014, accounting for a 326% y-o-y increase. The effort saw the company’s revenue for the year sky-rocket into $11.97 billion, something that was less than half of that amount in 2013.
The last time we heard of Xiaomi is when the company unveiled its Redmi 2 smartphone last weekend. With a price tag of $110, Xiaomi hopes to do a repeat of last year this year. The company’s president even predicted that in 5 years time, Xiaomi will topple Samsung and Apple to become the most-selling smartphone brand, a feat it has achieved in China already.
