Samsung Galaxy J5 and J7 selfie phones break cover
Samsung Electronics has unleashed two selfie-centric smartphones into a mobile industry where taking photographs of one’s self for social network needs is one of the most important uses of a smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy J5 and Samsung Galaxy J7, both packing 13-megapixel main cameras and 5-megapixel front shooters, are equipped with back as well as front-facing LED flashlights for lightening assistance when taking photos with either cameras.
In terms of display, the larger Galaxy J7 sports a 5.5-inch display while the Galaxy J5 rocks a 5-incher. Both devices have their TFT screens measuring 720 x 1280 pixels in resolution.
Under the hood, the J7 sports a higher-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC with eight CPU cores while the J5 uses a Snapdragon 410 chipset with a quad-core CPU. Both handsets come with 16GB of storage as well as microSD card slots that can hold up to 128GB of extra storage capacity.
On the software side, Android 5.1 Lollipop floats the boat on the two smartphones. In terms of connectivity, there’s support for 3G, LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS and GLONASS.
Pricing and availability
The Samsung Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 are priced to the equivalent of $225 and $290 in China and are expected to hit the shelves this week. International availability and pricing plans are expected to be announced in coming weeks.
