Traffic Warden Beats Pedestrian to Stupor for Ignoring Red Signal, In China
Most traffic wardens will settle for a slap on the wrist and an unwanted penalty fine when it comes to dishing out punishment to unruly road users.
But one traffic warden in China took it a little bit far when she attacked a pedestrian with a hammer, just because she had crossed the road when the light was red.
The unnamed officer was seen hitting the pedestrian over the head with an iron hammer repeatedly, after she ignored the officer’s command to not cross the road in eastern Shandong province.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack had been the culmination of previous disputes between the woman and the warden – because she had ignored traffic signals.
And as she attacked the pedestrian, she reportedly shouted ‘I won’t let you run the red light’.
The victim was left unconscious in the middle of the road and rushed to hospital, while the patrol officer was arrested at the scene and remains under police investigation.
It’s illegal to ignore traffic signals in China, and pedestrians caught ignoring traffic signals can be fined 10 yuan (£1).
