Xiaomi retains spot as number 1 Chinese smartphone brand
In China, privately-backed tech start-up Xiaomi has trounced Apple, Samsung and all others to retain its spot as the most popular smartphone vendor in the country during the first quarter of 2015.
Through statistics posted by IHS Technology, the Chinese phone maker reportedly held on to 14 % of the smartphone market share in a country home to over 1 billion people. Fellow nationals, Huawei followed closely at second while Apple, Samsung and Vivo filled up the remaining top five slots.
Last year, the “Apple of China” — as they are famously taunted — was pronounced the third largest smartphone brand globally (only behind Samsung and Apple) despite not being a global company like the majority of the other big players on the list.
