100k Meizu M1 units sold out in 60 seconds
With the recent massive success achieved by Xiaomi, several phone companies in Asia are embracing the flash sales aka ‘hunger sales’ model in selling their devices. Notwithstanding, the major similarities in these online flashes are good spec-to-price ratios, talk about Meizu’s recently-launched M1 (Blue Charm).
The Blue Charm went on its maiden sale on Thursday, China being the market, $112 was the price. The 100,000 units of products available, according to the Chinese phone maker, were sold out in 60 seconds. Looks like pure profit, right? And how impressive was that? Very? But before then, let’s take a look at this:
By rough estimations and judging by the specs vs price margin of this phone ($112 — costs about $100 to manufacture), Meizu needs to sell at least 100 million of them to get the profit of 500,000 units of iPhone 6 sold by Apple ($700 — costs less than $200 to make). This mathematics is why most Chinese phone vendors are usually poorer than their Western counterparts.
Back to the topic, the Meizu M1 sports a 5″ 768 x 1280 pixels touchscreen, striking a 140.2 x 72.1 x 8.9 mm footprint while tipping the scale at 126 grams. The smartphone is powered with a MediaTek MT6732 CPU 64-bit quad CPU paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. There’s a 13-megapixel camera at the back and a 5MP front-facer and Meizu had to adjust the battery capacity to 2500mAh down from the 2610mAh listed when the phone was unveiled.
