Apple has dethroned Samsung as top smartphone vendor: Counterpoint
And finally, after Apple had had an aggressively successful 2014 Q4, earning a record $18 billion profit in the process, it looks like the iOS tech giant has finally unseated Samsung from the throne of top-selling smartphone brand after nearly three year.
According to Counterpoint Research, Apple is the vendor to beat in terms of smartphone sales for now. The Cupertino-based outfit sold a mind-boggling 74.5 million smartphones during the last quarter of 2014 with 20.2% market share, leaving Samsung at second place with 73.8 million units(20%) while Lenovo (combined with Motorola), Huawei and Xiaomi completed the list.
Right now, things are expected to go more downhill for Samsung even as the Korean phone maker is preparing for a new flagship which will be called the Galaxy S6. However, a striking similarity with its successor (the Galaxy S5), revealed by pre-launch images might mean waterloo for Samsung as many fans have called for the reshuffling of smartphone design at the company.
