Blackberry sues Ryan Seacrest for Typo QWERTY keypad for iPhone
Last month, radio and television celebrity, Ryan Seacrest introduced a new concept called the Typo. The Typo is a hardware that brings a full physical QWERTY keyboard to iPhones.
Though the product is nice, and Seacrest will be showcasing this masterpiece at the 2014 CES coming up in a few days time, the whole thing seems to have backfired. BlackBerry is sueing Seacrest and his company for copyright infringement. Steve Zipperstein, General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer at BlackBerry has this to say:
“This is a blatant infringement against BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard, and we will vigorously protect our intellectual property against any company that attempts to copy our unique design. From the beginning, BlackBerry has always focused on offering an exceptional typing experience that combines a great design with ergonomic excellence. We are flattered by the desire to graft our keyboard onto other smartphones, but we will not tolerate such activity without fair compensation for using our intellectual property and our technological innovations.”
Typo is a brilliant idea no doubt, but mere looking at the keyboard when strapped to an iPhone, nothing comes to the mind than a fly BlackBerry Q5 — and that’s why BlackBerry wants to go to court.
We are not lawyers, or law experts though but we think that BlackBerry should have given enough time for Seacrest to make money from his idea before sueing him for a large amount of money because as it stands now BlackBerry will be getting peanuts for this case — if they win the court suit.
