BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz speed up to buy Nokia’s HERE Maps
Germany’s biggest car producers have lined up interest in purchasing Nokia’s Here navigation solution. The likes of BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and even China’s Baidu were cited as being in “advanced” talks with Nokia over purchase of app.
The rare partnership between auto rivals shows how determined these companies are to have a solution for car navigation that isn’t Google Maps or another service that they don’t have full control over. For years, consumers have complained about the lackluster built-in navigation apps that come included with expensive automobiles; they often pale in comparison to Google Maps or even Apple Maps.
A final price hasn’t been reached, with Nokia probably looking out for the highest bidder. Tech’s foray into self-driven cars has caused the major demand for navigation services recently.
