Breaking: Home-based Micromax topples Samsung India
In what the Korean phone maker fears most, Samsung has surrendered its top smartphone vendor position to Micromax in India. This is coming after analysis carried out in the mobile industry for the fourth quarter of 2014 by Canalys.
Micromax had their name on 22% of smartphones sold in India during the quarter, up from 21% while Samsung lost out to second place by clinching only 20% of the market share. The top four list was completed by two other local vendors namely Karbonn and Lava (makers of Xolo smartphones).
In 2014 Q3, a local smartphone brand, Xiaomi toppled Samsung in China. This could only mean that markets are rooting more support for home brands recently. But perhaps, Samsung has a lot more to worry about as it was reported that the company’s global shipments of smartphones was outdone by Apple’s during 2014 Q4.
