Couple gets $2 million Verizon phone bill after two months service
Verizon might be the biggest mobile carrier in the United States but Ken Slusher of Damascus, a city in Clackamas County, Oregon, and his spouse are not very pleased with the network provider. Slusher claims that Verizon sent him a 2-million-dollar phone bill which now means that his longtime dream of moving into his dream house with his girlfriend is about to get crushed.
Slusher and his girlfriend bought two phones from Verizon in November 2014. A month later, the couple asked Verizon to shut down the service and by January 2015, the mobile phones have been returned to Verizon’ stores.
Slusher said his bill was supposed to be $120 but was asked to pay $698. He thought that was all settled out when months later: “They thought it was all cleared up until they started getting notices from several collection agencies demanding upward of $2,000,” FOX 12 KPTV reported.
But the interesting part of the story has just begun. The mobile user was even more shocked when he phoned Verizon to get his bill sometime recently and the automated voice on the other end shouted “$2,156,593.64!”
Ken Slusher laughed off the bill at first. He called Verizon who promised to rectify the voicemail error and provide the correct amount owed — but they never did.
The Slushers are now in the middle of buying a new house with mortgage but couldn’t get to pay the down payment after the big bills from the collection agencies still showed up in their credit history unpaid. By Thursday, the couple will lose the house to other buyers if they are not able to make the payment.
“The number of errors and the comedy of which they happened is astounding to me,” Ken said. “Yeah, it’s been very stressful to say the least…(but) if I don’t get this straightened out in the next 24 hours, I can almost guarantee I’ll lose this house,” he added.
