Foxconn to build $30 million production plant in Pennsylvania
Many people thought Foxconn was joking when they said they will start a factory in the United states. The Taiwanese electronic manufacturing company known as Hon Hai Precision Industry in Taiwan is planning a $40 million spending spree in the US.
Undeterred by the current economic crisis in the US, Foxconn who are well known for their outsourced service used in the production of many Apple products like the iPhone 5 will spend $30 million for building a factory in the state of Pennsylvania while $10 million will be used for research. The research, which will be organised at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon University will focus in developing robots that will help automate the building of electronics in Foxconn’s new factory.
Foxconn says it’s looking to manufacture phones for as many companies as possible in the United States. Phones made in the States will not attract importation tax, thereby giving room for cheaper mobile phones in the US.
