Google thinks black guy and his girl friend were some “gorillas”
An embarrassing event played out on Twitter after an enraged user complained bitterly of Google’s misappropriation of a photograph he took with a friend as that of gorillas.
Google Photos is an awesome piece of software and interestingly, the app has a feature that automatically creates new folders and categorizes your pictures in these portfolios. However, the app’s image recognition algorithm seems a bit far from perfect.
Twitter user Jacky Alcine (@jackyalcine) says Google “f^^^ed” up big time by terming a photo of himself and a female friend as “gorillas.” Google’s chief architect of social, Yonatan Zunger, rendered an apology on Twitter almost immediately, explaining the bug will be fixed as soon as possible.
Mr. Alcine, a programmer who resides in Brooklyn, New York, has since taken down the tweet and even the regretful acknowledgment from @yonatanzunger (Yonatan Zunger) was nowhere to be found.
