Google’s Android One phone goes official under Micromax, Karbonn and Spice brands
Google has finally lifted the veil off the first set of smartphones under it’s Android One project. The search engine giant set out with the Indian market where it went for three most popular local smartphone brands there, namely, Micromax, Karbonn and Spice.
About Android One
Before we begin with the specs proper, lets tell you about the Android One project. The scheme was invoked by Google to present the people with affordable smartphones and to provide smartphones to the “next one billion” users.
With that being said, Google promised to seed updates directly to Android One phones for at least two years after their release. Now, let’s move on.
The three new Android One smartphones — Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V, and Spice Android One Dream Uno are all packing similar specs and it’s not by sheer coincidence. Mind you they all run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat and are first-class candidates for Google’s upcoming Android 5.0 update.
All three phones feature 4.5″ FWVGA screens, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage, 5MP rear and 2MP front-facing cameras, 1700mAh batteries and 3G-enabled dual SIM slot with Bluetooth, Wireless LAN and A-GPS connectivity all in tow.
Powering the three phones is a MT6582 chipset from MediaTek. The chip rocks a 1.3GHz quad-core CPU and a Mali-400MP2 graphics processor.
Respectively, Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V, and Spice Android One Dream will be available exclusively on Amazon India, Snapdeal and Flipkart at the prices of INR6,499 ($106), INR6,399 ($105) and INR6,299 ($103).
Google says it will be bringing the Android One project before the end of this year to countries like Indonesia, the Philippines and South Asia (Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, with other markets set to follow next year.
