HTC One Wear smartwatch ready to break cover at MWC, specs inside
Amid speculations they will release a smartwatch last year, Taiwanese phone maker HTC came out to deny the claims and to tell us that 2015 is the year. Well, 2015 is here, so let’s take a look at what HTC’s first smartwatch will look like.
First of all, the watch, still under development, is known as HTC Petra. But that’s just the codename, according to PCAdvisor, the real name of the smartwatch when it breaks cover will be HTC One Wear. So, what’s inside a HTC One Wear?
Firstly, as the name implies, the wearable will likely be booting on Google’s Android Wear OS — that’s the preferred smartwatch platform right now, even though Apple’s Watch will be using something else anyway. The HTC Petra is expected to break cover alongside the HTC One M9, and this means two partners are going to be born on the same day.
The HTC watch will reportedly arrive with a 1.8-inch 160 x 320 pixels flexible OLED touchscreen. Inside ticks an ST Micro STM32L151 chipset alongside support for a Bluetooth and GPS as well as a fitness tracker. The One Wear is going to pack a lot of ruggedness since it’s having IP57-certified dust and water resistance.
Finally, the watch is said to be running on HTC’s specially-designed platform called RTOS. This will enable support for Android OS as well as iOS devices. The Mobile World Congress is where the HTC One M9 will break cover in a few weeks time and it’s safe to say we are expecting the HTC Petra/One Wear there too.
