Huawei Mate S goes up on sale in Europe
The Huawei Mate S was unveiled at the IFA trade show in Berlin earlier this month. The smartphone hasn’t gone on sale elsewhere but Huawei has just made the product available on presale in Europe where shipping is expected to start in “4-5 weeks” according to the Chinese OEM.
In the United Kingdom, the Mate S is priced £469.00 while in Switzerland, a unit will set you back CHF 649. The rest of Europe (Belgium, France, Germany, Italia, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain) where the product is available will have to pay €649 for a copy.
Spec-wise, Huawei Mate S features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 64-bit Huawei-made HiSilicon Kirin 935 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The smartphone takes pictures with the help of a 13-megapixel rear camera unit which packs a dual tone LED flash for scene lightening as well as support for optical image stabilization. The front-facing side of the device is equipped by an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
In terms of software, the handset runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system clubbed with Emotion UI 3.1 skin. The metal-clad device measures 149.8 x 75.3 x 7.2 mm and tips the scale at 156 grams with its 2700mAh battery.
Probably, the biggest feature on the Mate S is Force Touch technology. The feature allows you to “zoom” into options under a menu or select the menu by heavy pressing or light tapping of the screen. Before the introduction of the device, several mobile experts called the feature gimmick but Huawei wasn’t moved by the criticism neither did Apple who also bundled the technology into their latest iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models.
