LG: Flexible display phones will take over 40% of smartphone market in four years’ time
LG’s head of product planning Dr. Ramchan Woo is the man who thinks that phones with flexible displays will constitute 40% of the smartphone market by 2018.
Dr. Woo who said “we got bored of flat”, said that the LG G Flex, world’s second phone with flexible display(though not actually flexible due to a solid body) was based on a cool, curvy design.
“Without the battery, we cannot make the phone,” he said, but thanks to a “Stack & Folding” technology, the G Flex was able to conceive a huge 3500mAh battery inside it’s curly body. Woo forecast that curved smartphones will reach 12% in market stake by the end of 2015.
LG is not alone in the curved phone market, Samsung had already unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Round with a 6″ display made with flexible material while Apple is said to be experimenting with two sizes of flexible display for it’s next iPhone models. Apple was also said to have struck a deal with LG to supply the former of flexible displays for it’s iWatch that will debut next year.
