Micromax’s Yu smartphone goes on flash sale come January 13
We told you last year of how India’s top phone company, Micromax Mobiles, created another company which will churn out smartphones to compete Xiaomi handsets. The name of the new subsidiary is Yu and the outfit has produced its first phone which it calls “Yureka”.
In December 2014, Micromax/Yu allowed potential customers to register in order to participate in a flash sale where a limited units of the Yu Yureka will be sold. The company stated that attendance was too much and they had to close down the registration portal before schedule.
“We saw unprecedented response with over three lakh registrations. Registrations were to be open till 25th December. However, owing to the mega response they had to be closed a day earlier,” said Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax.
And now, the much anticipated sale is ready to happen. 10,000 units of the Yureka will be available on Amazon India where the fastest 10,000 (or less) hands will be able to get the smartphone at INR 8,999 apiece — Yu is clearly following the Xiaomi way, we wonder if the company can replicate the Chinese phone maker’s success on Indian soil.
Spec-wise, Yu Yureka is a 5.5″ 720p touchscreen smartphone, running on CyangenMod version of Android OS, powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit processor, 2GB of RAM and a 2,500mAh battery. The handset features a 13MP main camera at the back and a 5MP front-facing webcam.
