Next slew of Android One smartphones will hit India by December
Spurred by the impressive success of the first Android One smartphones which were launched a week ago, Indian phone manufacturers of Karbonn, can’t wait till December when Google will launch the next round of Android One smartphones.
“Smartphone penetration in India still remains low and we believe there is still a huge scope…We will look at bringing in a device by December-end,” Shashin Devsare, who is the Executive Director of Karbonn Mobiles said.
His company released a smartphone called the Karbonn Sparkle V under the Google Android One program. The smartphone was priced at $105 and looks identical to Spice Mobile’s Dream Uno and Micromax Canvas A1 who both were also released in the Android One program at the same price region.
Group CEO of Spice Mobiles, Dilip Modi, while speaking about products created from partnership like the Google’s, said, “Our intent is to offer consumers a wide variety of products packed with features across various price points. We already have one of the most affordable smartphones with Firefox and we will continue to bring affordable devices to the market.”
However, a new member of the Android One family who wasn’t involved in the last wave of Android One products, Intex, said they can’t wait to launch an Android One device. “We are actively working on bringing out the Android One device to the market. It takes about 3-4 months for any final product to be made available in the market,” Intex Business Head (Mobile) Sanjay Kalirona said.
