Power monster: THL 4000
If you are a regular tech reader, you must have come across THL’s power houses aka THL 4000 and THL 5000. These two models are successors of the year-old THL T4400 and THL T5000 with similar battery capacities. However, this article particularly focused on the THL 4000 with 4000mAh battery.
Per due process, let’s take a look at what the THL 4000 has to offer:
THL 4000 key specs
- 4.7-inch qHD IPS display
- 1GB of RAM
- 8GB storage
- 32GB microSD card slot
- 1.3GHz quad-core CPU
- MediaTek MT6582 chipset
- Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS
- 5MP main camera (with LED flash)
- 2MP secondary camera
- Dual mini SIM card slot
- Bluetooth Version 4.0
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- 4000mAh battery
Let’s start with this 4.7-inch touchscreen on the THL 4000. How does it look like? The display looks good of course. With 16,000,000 colors, what more could one ask for with $100?
The major let down on the display is the low resolution (540 x 960) which produces a 234 pixel per inch score meaning a closer observation on the screen will mean noticing a few missing pixels. However, the human eye under a normal scenario, will see this display as fine.
4000mAh battery? Won’t the device look bulky? Well, the 4000 looks kind of but not as bulky as you’d expect a device with 4000mAh of gigantic power juice inside. The rest of the device’s outer part look normal and mainstream.
It’s a widely accepted that anything beyond 5 megapixels on a phone’s camera is an overkill, owing that it’s pretty much useless to accumulate so much pixels when the device’s display cannot render this much picture details.
Not everybody will agree with the above statement but THL does, judging on how the company used a 5MP camera on the 4000. The unit is also equipped with a LED flash as well as an adequate 2-megapixel front-facing secondary camera for taking selfies.
The THL 4000 uses the industry’s most popular chipset — MT6582 by MediaTek. The processor houses a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU with four cores. There’s 1GB of RAM to make sure operations on the device run properly.
Running on the smartphone is Android 4.4.2 KitKat which is a cool brew of Google’s software prowess. The OS runs clean and smooth with little or no customizations from THL except for the addition of few preloaded apps like THL’s own app market and some utility applications.
By this point, you should have known the biggest weapon of the THL 4000 is its battery. With a 4000mAh battery which supports QuickCharge 2.0(0% to 60% in 30 minutes), the device can charge other microUSB devices as well as iPhones (Apple lightening port).
On paper, the phone will last you some 850 hours on standby, according to THL. You don’t expect such longevity in a real life scenario however, under normal usage, we found out the THL 4000 smartphone lasts 3 to 4 days on a single full charge.
THL 4000 is a cool bang for the buck. Sporting a $100 price tag on Gearbest, the product’s price will further be subsidized when you use the coupon code 4000CN to just $86.99 ($13 off).
We recommend this device for anyone who craves for long battery life and less charging.
