SA leads mobile apps downloads in Africa
South Africa is at it again. Yet again, South Africa has successfully set a new record in the technology market. Officially, South Africa is now the Africa country with the highest download rate of mobile applications. This means that South Africans and people in South Africa download mobile apps more than any other person or group of people in other parts of Africa.
Mobile applications range from games to utility apps, browsers, file mangers, photo editors and the likes. They have been created and developed to aid us in our day to day activities, make harder tasks easier for us, help us to achieve so much more from our phones and also, serve as a source of recreation to us.
The report which was officially made and published by the GSM Association (GSMA) has revealed in its ‘Mobile Economy Report for Sub-Saharan Africa 2015’ that while South Africa leads the line when it comes to downloads of applications to our mobile phones in the Sub-Saharan Africa, other competitors such as Nigeria and Kenya trail behind.
According to the market tracker application, the most downloaded mobile app in the app market is Whatsapp, after which Facebook comes and the top three is finally rounded up by Instagram.
“Social networking and instant messaging apps
from global internet players are very popular
among smartphone users in the region,” GSMA has confirmed. It is expected that the e-commerce ventures in South Africa would experience a major boost as regards this phenomenon.
