Samsung GamePad for Android gives your smartphone a joystick and turns it into a portable console
As if WiiU sales flop wasn’t enough, Nintendo is going to take another hit, this time it’s from Samsung, nay, Android phones.
The WiiU is a portable game console with rechargeable battery which you can take with you on that boring bus journey, so is your smartphone. But many don’t like playing games on touchscreens and most smartphones don’t even feel comfy when held on landscape with two hands — and that’s what Samsung GamePad came to fix.
With GamePad, you attach your Android smartphone to the device like a monitor, and you have the full joystick layout you will get on PS Vita, or even full consoles like the PlayStation or Xbox One. And that brings more light to who will be agonizing in the corner over sales when Samsung GamePad hit the shelves in few weeks time — it’s Sony, the PlayStation Vita potable console manufacturer. Many smartphone owners who are tempted to go for the later might want to think twice when they learn of Gamepad, which will be reasonably cheaper than WiU and PS Vita.
Samsung GamePad, with it’s Samsung Mobile Console app, allows you to play games with Android 4.1 (or higher) smartphones, while being able to hold devices with four inches to 6.3 inches screens on it’s docking port. The docking port has nothing to do with gameplay though, as you’ll need Bluetooth 3.0 (or higher) on your Android smartphone for communication with the GamePad.
Samsung Mobile Console app, which you will need to install on your Android phone to enable connection with the GamePad, comes with 35 games preloaded, and some big names highlighted include: Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Asphalt8: Airborne, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, Virtual Tennis Challenge, and Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame.
As if it’s not awesome enough, the GamePad allows you to play these games via AllShare Screen Mirroring on your TV(not compatible with old ‘Landlord’ TVs in the family museum ), modern TVs with HDMI connectivity.
The Samsung GamePad is coming to European market before the end of 2013 and Samsung has promised “much more” in 2014.
