Samsung partnering with Toyota and Jaguar to bring Tizen OS to cars
According to insider information coming from Korea, Samsung and Intel (the two owners of Tizen OS) are working with Toyota and Jaguar to get Tizen OS running in your car’s dashboard.
The partnership will see Tizen running the In-Vehicle-Infotainment (IVI) system in Toyota and Jaguar cars once the deal materializes. Tizen is not stopping at cars, smartphones and cameras.
“Tizen is a platform capable of open scalability. As we are cooperating with Toyota and Jaguar in IVI, scalability to TV, camera, wearable devices and refrigerators is guaranteed. To further increase scalability, Tizen 3.0, to be released in Q3 2014, will cut the RAM and storage space resources in half. Tizen can be applied to devices with lower specifications.” — Intel’s Open Source Technology Center chief system engineer, Mark Skarpness.
Yesterday, we caught the Samsung Redwood running Tizen OS with smaller processors performing greatly in benchmark tests.
