United States: Apple’s iOS overthrows Google Android for the first time in years
With the optimum timing of Apple’s iPhone 6 release and the emergence of the Cupertino tech giant in the phablet category with the iPhone 6 Plus smartphone, iOS was able to beat Google’s Android for the first time since 2012 in the United States Of America.
The dominance wasn’t very bold, albeit, it was there: “In the US, Apple iOS overtook Android for the first time since this time in 2012, albeit by the slimmest 0.1% margin,” Kantar Worldpanel ComTech‘s chief of research Carolina Milanesi, explained.
Elsewhere across the world, iOS grew in the expense of Android. “China: Apple iOS grew share year-on-year at the expense of Android. While Xiaomi remained the bestselling brand in the latest period, Apple was able to close the gap slightly, growing its share to 21.5% from 19% last year.”
Apple had a really blasting Q4 in 2014 as the company enjoyed record sales and profits. This year, iOS will be spreading out to wearables as Apple Watch debuts later in 2015. Apple hopes to gain more attraction with the introduction of wearables on its platform.
A research firm, Counterpoint Research, reported that Apple sold more smartphones in the world than everybody including Samsung. This claim has be refuted by some analysts who believe Apple still has a very slight journey to make in order to dominate over Samsung.
