Samsung’s smartphone market share bows to Apple pressure
Samsung has continued to falter in the smartphone space and in the mobile industry in general. Following market pressure from iPhone maker Apple, alongside rise in some Chinese brands’ fortunes, IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker shows that the South Korean tech company has shed a huge chunk of market share for the second quarter of 2015 that ended in June.
Although global smartphone shipments were on the rise at the fore mentioned time, Samsung didn’t sell up to 74.9 million devices in managed to sling during the same period in 2014, falling the company’s global smartphone market share from 24.8% to 21.7%.
Apple was on fire, shipping 47.5 million handsets in Q2, a large increase over the 35.2 million units shipped during last year’s Q2. The Cupertino, USA device maker is now in control of 14.1% of the market, against the 11.7% it had in 2014 Q2.
