Xiaomi Redmi 2 unveiled with 4.7″ display, dual SIM LTE
And here we have one of the phones which we expect to rock 2015 — Xiaomi Redmi 2. After series of leaks and gossips, the Xiaomi Redmi 1s successor has finally gone official though you can find the specs part hasn’t changed much from the predecessor.
Sporting a 4.7″ 720p display, the Sharp touchscreen is similar to the one used on the Redmi 1s, only better and thinner. The second Xiaomi Redmi is covered in plastic and comes in different color schemes namely, pink, yellow, sky blue, white and black.
Under the hood, you’ll find a Snapdragon 410 chipset powering the phone, and it’s surrounded by a quad Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM and an Adreno 306 graphics processor. The smartphone runs on a modified Android 4.4 KitKat operating system themed as MIUI version 6.
The camera job is done by an 8-megapixel OmniVision sensor which can capture 1080p/FullHD videos at 30 frames per second. The frontal camera is a 2MP shooter with 720/HD video capabilities.
You’ll find a dual micro SIM slot inside the Xiaomi Redmi 2. These two ports support LTE or 3G or GSM at the same time. There’s also space for microSD cards for memory extension. The phone further packs support for Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS and GLONASS while a 2200mAh battery powers the whole unit.
Pricing and availability
In China, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is starting at a base of CNY 700 (roughly $110) from Friday January 9th. There’s no word on international availability yet but we’ll relay that to you whenever the info is around.
