Konami and Sony launch ‘Xperia J1 Compact : The Phantom Pain Edition’
Forget that Sony is nowhere popular as Samsung or Apple in terms of smartphone sales globally, but back home in Japan, Sony phones are the real deal, keeping to the number 1 spot every time — same for the few times they get subbed by Apple iPhones or another popular flagship that just got released.
Taking advantage of this crowd familiarity, Konami, the video game maker, has partnered with Sony to unveil a phone called the Sony Xperia J1 Compact: The Phantom Pain Edition.
Now, this edition is still the regular edition of the Xperia J1 Compact but it was themed with Konami’s much-anticipated upcoming video game called Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
The device comes with a custom rear cover which features the Outer Heaven logo, the base of the Big Boss in the MGS universe, as well as lots of preloaded digital content, also tied with the Metal Gear Solid franchise: a $8 voucher to purchase game-related comics, novels, and concept art. On the phone itself, users can enjoy a custom ringtone, wallpaper, and listen to two OST tracks from the upcoming stealth game.
So what is the price of this phone? Sony says the smartphone is priced 59,800 Japanese yen, which is roughly $480 in US dollars.
