Zopo ZP580 review — more for less
Zopo is relatively a new brand in the smartphone industry. Shooting out from a head office located in China, Zopo does it’s business in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain and a string of other countries around the globe.
In this article, we are going to look into a particular Zopo Android smartphone — the Zopo ZP580. This smartphone is priced $113.42 at Gearbest.com, so we can say it’s an affordable device. But then, does affordable always mean cheap? Read on to find out.
Zopo ZP580 comes with a 4.5-inch TFT touchscreen with quarter HD (540 x 960pixels) resolution. We can say that 4.5 inches is good, since the phone has a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels to back things up, bringing the PPI to 245 which is not bad for a sub-$200 smartphone.
The screen’s material (TFT) has not turned out to be the best technology for mobile screens, though the render is not bad either. With an ARM Mali 400-MP1 graphics processor running at 500Mhz, Zopo managed to make the visuals tidy on the ZP580.
Display Score: 6/10
This section should be brief, because the ZP580 was designed to look simple. Firstly, the phone measures 136 × 66 × 10mm.
The height is not that impressive for those of us who prefer phones with small top and bottom bezels but the side bezels are quite thin, safe to say.
Zopo ZP580 comes in a variety of lively colors namely, red, cyan, yellow, white and finally, black. The bottom back of the device is adorned by stereo speakers and a camera with it’s flash is positioned so well at the back, giving the phone a balanced look.
Design Score: 8/10
Photo-wise, our device is blessed with a 5MP rear shooter and a 2MP front-facing web cam. The 5MP camera is crisp clear, and thanks to the MediaTek MT6572 chipset inside the phone, can record HD videos.
The main camera is also equipped with LED flash but there’s a night mode feature in case you want to shoot pictures in dark places without the camera light.
Coming to the front of the Zopo ZP580, you’ll meet a 2-megapixel camera for all your selfie needs.
Camera Score: 6/10
Zopo ZP580 is powered by a MediaTek MT6572 system-on chip which houses a 1.3GHz dual-core Cortex-A7 CPU, and a Mali-400 MP1 GPU.
The MT6572 is not the fastest in the game, nor the latest, but with sheer stability this chipset will get it’s work done properly.
Furthermore, there’s 512MB of RAM and a ROM of 4GB inside the Zopo ZP580. While the RAM doesn’t need much emphasis because most apps are OK with that amount of RAM, it’s just the speed that matters. The phone will not do things in lightening speed but copying a 1GB file from one end to another will take less than five minutes.
There’s a microSD card slot embedded into the back of the device. You can see the slot after you lift the removable back cover. The slot can contain memory cards with capacity as high as 32GB.
Finally, Zopo ZP580 runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. The phone supports dual SIM cards with 2G and 3G networks.
Internals Score: 4/10
Powering the Zopo ZP580 is a 1700mAh Li-Polymer battery, which can last anywhere between 100 to 250 hours on standby.
Battery Score: 8/10
Zopo ZP580 is quite an affordable smartphone. The screen, battery, camera were all OK but the smartphone was almost let down by the processor.
Our final finding is that the phone is a good buy at the specs on it. You can buy the ZP580 from Gearbest by clicking here.
So, according to your opinion and with the Zopo ZP580 in mind, does affordable mean cheap?
