ZTE Rings Success In United States Smartphone Market

Years after the company labeled as security threat by US Congress, ZTE the Chinese telecom equipment maker quietly grown into third largest seller of Android smartphones in the country.

The recent success of Shenzhen based company clearly shows that as high technology remains one of the politicized economic aspects in United States and China trade relations, each country cracks down each others’ imports and some companies finding ways to succeed.

“It’s kind of a myth that Chinese companies can’t crack the US market,” said by Bryan of IDC, technology consultancy.

While company rivals including Huawei and Xiaomi continues to expand into cheaper phone markets like India and Brazil, ZTE embarked a full blown public relations pushing into premium market in US. From zero presence in 2010, it had grown around 7.5 percent on US smartphone market in third quarter of last year, according to IDC, up from 6.8 percent in same period the year before beating Samsung, LG, and Apple.

ZTE’s push ranged from new, with a friendlier font logo sponsoring five US National Basketball Association teams including Houston Rockets, Golden State warriors, and Chicago Bulls.
